Turn a Slack request into a Linear task
When someone asks for something in Slack, Olyvr can file it as a Linear issue and reply in the thread so the requester knows where to follow it.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”- The Linear plugin, signed in to your Linear workspace.
- The built-in Slack plugin, signed in to the workspace with the request.
- A model.
Ask Olyvr
Section titled “Ask Olyvr”Create a Linear task from this Slack request and reply in its thread with the task link: https://acme.slack.com/archives/C0123ABCD/p1712345678123456
What Olyvr does
Section titled “What Olyvr does”The two writes are separate steps, each with its own approval.
- Reads the Slack message and its thread.
- Picks the Linear team, project and assignee. If the team is ambiguous or the person in Slack has no clear match in Linear, it asks.
- Shows the issue it will create: title, description, team, assignee and due date, with a link back to the Slack message.
- After your approval, creates the issue and shows its link.
- Shows the thread reply with the issue link and waits for a second approval. Slack posts always ask first.
- Posts the reply in the original thread.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”- One new issue in Linear, with the request’s details and a link to the Slack message.
- One reply in the Slack thread, linking to that issue.
- If either step failed, Olyvr says which one. A created issue stays created.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”- The issue was created but the Slack reply failed: ask Olyvr to post the reply only. Check the thread first so you don’t post the link twice.
- You cancel after the issue is created: the issue stays in Linear. Delete or archive it there if you don’t want it.
- One app asks you to sign in: the Linear and Slack sign-ins are separate. Signing in to one doesn’t sign in the other.
