Install
Get the installer for your system from the download page. Everything Olyvr needs is bundled: you do not need Python, Node.js or any other runtime.
Requires macOS 15 or later on a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later). Intel Macs aren’t supported.
-
Open the downloaded
.dmgand drag Olyvr into Applications. -
Open Olyvr from Applications. It’s signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS only asks you to confirm opening an app downloaded from the internet.
-
Olyvr opens to a new chat. Continue with the quickstart.
On macOS, Olyvr can list your running apps and check whether it has the Accessibility permission, without changing anything. Window control, which will need that permission, is still in development. You can grant it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
Requires 64-bit Windows.
-
Run the downloaded
.exe. It installs for your user account only, so it does not need administrator rights. You can choose the install folder. -
The installer is not yet code signed, so Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may show Windows protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway.
-
Open Olyvr from the Start menu and continue with the quickstart.
Requires 64-bit (x86_64) Linux with a reasonably recent glibc.
-
Make the AppImage executable:
Terminal window chmod +x Olyvr-*.AppImage -
Run it:
Terminal window ./Olyvr-*.AppImageIf it fails to start with a FUSE error, install your distribution’s
libfuse2package. -
Continue with the quickstart.
Verify the download
Section titled “Verify the download”Each card on the download page lists a SHA-256 checksum. Compare it with the checksum of the file you downloaded:
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Olyvr-*.dmgGet-FileHash $env:USERPROFILE\Downloads\Olyvr-*.exe -Algorithm SHA256sha256sum Olyvr-*.AppImageIf the values differ, delete the file and download it again.
Updates
Section titled “Updates”Olyvr keeps itself up to date. It checks for a new version when it starts and every hour after that, and downloads it in the background. When the new version is ready, choose Relaunch to update right away. If you don’t, it installs the next time you quit.
To check yourself, open Settings → About and choose Check now. On a Mac, you can also choose Olyvr → Check for Updates… from the menu bar. On Linux, only the AppImage updates itself. If an update can’t be installed automatically, Settings → About links to the download page so you can install the latest version yourself.
Update track, also under Settings → About, chooses which releases you get:
- Stable: tested releases. The default.
- Beta: the next release a little early, and any newer stable release.
Switching from Beta back to Stable never installs an older version: you stay on yours until Stable catches up.
Where Olyvr keeps your data
Section titled “Where Olyvr keeps your data”| OS | Folder |
|---|---|
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/Olyvr Cowork |
| Windows | %APPDATA%\Olyvr Cowork |
| Linux | ~/.config/Olyvr Cowork |
This folder holds your imported documents, chats, search index, settings and encrypted credentials. Back it up to keep your workspace; delete it to start fresh. Data and privacy describes what is inside.
Uninstall
Section titled “Uninstall”- macOS: quit Olyvr and drag it from Applications to the Trash.
- Windows: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Olyvr → Uninstall.
- Linux: delete the AppImage.
Uninstalling leaves your data folder in place. Delete it yourself if you want to remove your workspace too.
