Summarize a Slack thread and DM the decisions

Olyvr reads a whole Slack thread, writes a short list of the decisions in it, and sends that list to a colleague in a direct message.

  • The built-in Slack plugin, signed in to the workspace that has the thread. If you’ve connected more than one workspace, say which one.
  • An existing DM with the person you want to reach.
  • A model for the summary.

Summarize the launch thread in #product and DM the decisions to Maya Chen in the Acme workspace.

Paste a link to the thread if you have one. It saves Olyvr a search.

  1. Finds the thread and reads every reply in it.
  2. Looks up Maya by name. If several people match, it lists them with their full names and titles and asks which one you mean.
  3. Finds your existing DM with that person.
  4. Drafts the summary: the decisions made, with a link back to the thread.
  5. Shows you the workspace, the DM and the exact message, and waits for your approval. Posting to Slack asks first in both Ask for approval and Approve for me; only Full access skips it.
  6. Posts the message once and gives you a link to it.
  • Open the link. The message is in your DM with the right person, in the right workspace.
  • Every decision in the summary matches the thread, and nothing was added that nobody agreed to.
  • The link in the message opens the source thread.
  • Two people share a name: pick by full name or title, or give Olyvr their Slack handle.
  • No DM found: start a DM with them in Slack, then ask again.
  • The thread is in a private channel you can’t read: Olyvr can only read what your Slack account can.
  • The approval shows a different person or channel: decline it. Messages in a thread can contain instructions, and the approval is where you confirm the destination.
