Olyvr for Slack
Olyvr Cowork is a desktop assistant for your documents, mail and chats. Connect Slack, and the conversations you choose are saved on your own computer, where you can search them and ask questions alongside the rest of your work. Answers cite the Slack messages they come from. My Day shows the Slack messages that need you, and drafts replies for you to paste into Slack.
Olyvr reads Slack as you, with your own permissions, so it only ever sees what you can already see in Slack. It doesn’t add a bot to your workspace, join channels, or post anything you haven’t reviewed.
What you can do
Section titled “What you can do”- Ask about your conversations. “What did we decide about the launch date?” Olyvr answers from the messages you imported, and links each point to the message it came from.
- Search across tools. Slack conversations sit next to your mail, files and documents, so one question can draw on all of them.
- See what needs you. My Day lists Slack mentions of you or your user groups, and direct messages, with the message quoted.
- Reply without switching apps. Draft a reply in Olyvr. It opens in a form where you can check and edit the text and the recipient. Nothing is posted until you click Send. If you ask the agent to post a message, it asks for your approval every time.
Install and connect Slack
Section titled “Install and connect Slack”-
Download Olyvr for macOS, Windows or Linux, and install it.
-
In Olyvr, open Memory Data Sources, choose Add data source, then Slack.
-
Click Sign in with Slack. Your browser opens Slack’s permission page. Pick your workspace, review the permissions, and click Allow.
-
Back in Olyvr, choose what to import:
- Conversations: the channels, private channels, group DMs and direct messages you’re a member of. All are ticked to start with; untick any you want to leave out.
- Period: how far back to import, from the last month to all time. The default is the last 6 months.
-
Click Start import. Each conversation is saved as one document per week, and later refreshes fetch only what changed.
When the import is done, ask a question in a new chat, or open My Day to see what needs you. You can connect more than one workspace.
Permissions Olyvr asks for
Section titled “Permissions Olyvr asks for”Olyvr asks for user permissions only. They let it act as you, never as a bot, and never beyond what you can do in Slack yourself.

Optional: Slack search
Section titled “Optional: Slack search”If you allow Search messages when you sign in, Olyvr can search your Slack the way you would in Slack. It can then answer questions about conversations you haven’t imported, and find your mentions faster. Search only returns what you can already see. Everything else works without it. To add it later, sign in with Slack again from Olyvr.
Your data
Section titled “Your data”- On your computer. Imported conversations and your Slack sign-in are stored in Olyvr’s data folder on your computer. The sign-in is encrypted. Olyvr’s servers don’t keep your Slack messages or your Slack sign-in.
- Sign-in. To finish signing in, Slack sends your sign-in to Olyvr’s account service. It keeps it encrypted until the app on your computer collects it, then deletes it. If the app doesn’t collect it within five minutes, it expires and can’t be used.
- AI. When you ask a question or draft a reply, the relevant message excerpts go to the AI model provider you chose in Olyvr, or stay on your computer if you use a local model. See what leaves your machine.
- No training. Olyvr never uses your Slack data to train AI models.
